Brandywine Women Win PSUAC; Men Take Third

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine women's cross country team won the Penn State University Athletic Conference, while the Lions' men's cross country team took third place at the league invitational on Saturday at Penn State Scranton.

Brandywine claimed its second women's crown in program history and first since 2015. The Lions produced a team score of 26 points, four points lower than second-place Penn State Schuylkill.

Jenaya Smith (Cohoes, N.Y./Cohoes) paced the Lions by finishing in third place. She ran a personal-best 6K time of 30:05.

Meghan Ferry (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) also turned in a personal-best mark and finished in the top 10, producing the eighth-lowest time of the meet at 35:10.

Madison Ollis (Coatesville, Pa./Avon Grove), Lianna DeDios (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park Memorial) and Esha Thawani (Absecon, N.J./Ocean City) finished consecutively beginning with Ollis' 12th-place showing in 38:59. DeDios recorded a time of 40:31, while Thawani crossed the line in 42:49. Iyana Handy (Chester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) rounded out the Lions in 51:28.

On the men's side, Brandywine recorded a team score of 74 points, while Penn State Schuylkill finished in first with 28 points.

The Lions' top time came from John Finley (West Chester, Pa./Regina Luminis Academy), who finished the 8K run in 30:52, which was good for sixth place.

Tewahido Agonafir (Philadelphia, Pa./Academy at Palumbo) was the next Lion to hit the finish line, doing so in 33:27. Kevin O'Neill (Morton, Pa./Springfield) notched a time of 34:43, while Gui Henn (Exton, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) ran to a time of 40:36 and Alex Jennings (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) tallied a mark of 45:56.

Pascal Deppish of Penn State Schuylkill was the men's medalist in 28:27, while Penn State Fayette's Chloe Kalp claimed the women's medalist honor in 25:58.
