Big First Half Give Lions Victory Over GA

MEDIA, Pennsylvania – Penn State Brandywine scored all three of its goals during the first half and collected a 3-1 PSUAC women's soccer victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday afternoon.

The victory improved Brandywine to 3-1 overall and in conference play, while Greater Allegheny now sits a 2-3 overall and remains winless in league play at 0-2.

Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) put Brandywine on the board during the 17th minute with her fourth goal of the season.

A goal from Mary Mitcheli (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) doubled Brandywine's lead at the 30:06 mark and just under four minutes later, Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) added her team-leading fifth score of the season.

The three goals were all Brandywine would need as Lion goalkeepers Alyssa Abbonizio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Melanie Kempf (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) combined to stop seven of the eight shots they faced on the afternoon. Abbonizio picked up her third victory, while stopping all four shots on goal in just over 70 miuntes of action and Kempf blocked three shots in relief of Abbonizio.

Brandywine tallied 16 shots on goal, including a game-high four from Segich, while limiting GA to just eight shots.

For the first time this fall, Brandywine will hit the road as the Lions travel to Rosemont for a nonconference game next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
