Women’s Soccer Caps Regular Season With Shutout Win

MONACA, Pa. – Goalkeeper Alyssa Abbonizio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) completed her second shutout of the season and Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) scored twice for Penn State Brandywine as the women's soccer team completed its regular season with a 4-0 triumph at Penn State Beaver on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine (7-2-1, 6-1-1 PSUAC) will meet either Beaver or Penn State Schuylkill next Sunday (2:00 pm) for the PSUAC championship in State College. The Lions' victory on Saturday gave Brandywine the regular-season title and No. 1 seed during Brandywine's first season as a varsity program.

Beaver and Schuylkill will play Wednesday afternoon with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship match.

Segich found the back of the net off a feed from Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) just 28 seconds into the match, putting Brandywine in front.

Brandywine added three more scores during the final 45 minutes. Mary Mitcheli (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) doubled the Lions' lead at the 50:48 mark and Segich tacked on her second goal, which was assisted by Daisy Hirsh (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East), 22 minutes later.

Hirsh added a goal of her own with just seconds remaining in regulation to account for the final score.

Abbonizio stopped a six shots she faced, including four in the second half, to improve to 7-2-1 in net, while Brittany Zahn blocked seven shots in a losing cause for Beaver.

Brandywine tallied 17 of the game's 26 shots overall.
