Brandywine Tops Mont Alto In Fourth-Straight PSUAC Victory

MONT ALTO, Pennsylvania -- Ami Iannello (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) scored twice as the Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team edged Penn State Mont Alto 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine (5-2, 5-1 PSUAC) can now clinch a berth in the PSUAC Championship game on November 1 with a win or draw during either of its final two conference games. The Lions also will clinch a bid if Penn State Schuylkill does not defeat Penn State Greater Allegheny on Sunday afternoon.

Brandywine had to overcome a 1-0 deficit as Carlee Brumgard scored for Mont Alto early during the first half.

Iannello answered with the game-tying goal, striking a shot from the right side of the box over goalkeeper Taylor Zeiders' head, with 18 minutes to play in the half.

Minutes later, Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) found Iannello, who deposited her second goal and it stood up over the final half as the game-winner.

Brandywine outshot Mont Alto 20-8 and collected twice as many corner kicks (4-2). Goalkeeper Alyssa Abbonizio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) posted five saves for Brandywine, while Zeiders stopped 10 for Mont Alto.

The Lions are on the road again Tuesday at Valley Forge beginning at 3:30 pm.
