Abbonizio Named National Goalkeeper Of The Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Penn State Brandywine sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Abbonizio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) has been selected as the national women's soccer goalkeeper of the week by the United State Collegiate Athletic Association the organization announced on Tuesday.

Abbonizio, who also earned her third conference keeper of the week award from the PSUAC, posted a shutout against Penn State Beaver during the Lions' 4-0 victory in their regular-season finale on Saturday. She blocked all six shots she faced en route to blanking an opponent for the second time this fall.

Abbonizio has started all 10 games in goal for Brandywine, posting a 7-2-1 record with 63 saves and a 1.63 goals-against average.

During the team's first season as at the varsity level, Abbonizio helped Brandywine claim the league's regular-season title and earn the No. 1 seed for Sunday's PSUAC championship match. The Lions will face either Penn State Beaver or Penn State Schuylkill in the first PSUAC title game at 2:00 pm in State College.
