Brandywine Edges Gwynedd Mercy In Regular-Season Finale

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine won its women's soccer regular-season finale as Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) scored both goals in a 2-1 road victory over Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday night.

Banks, who owns 19 goals this season, scored twice in a span of less than 12 minutes midway through the second half, both on feeds from Rachel Weir (Neptune City, N.J./Red Bank).

Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) was strong in goal, stopping 11 of the 12 shots she faced in 90 minutes to earn her eighth victory of the season. She made six stops during a scoreless opening half and then helped preserve the win with five more stops during the final 45 minutes.

Banks struck first at the 57:26 mark, sending a shot from inside the box into the back of the net. Weir then delivered a long through pass to Banks, who deposited her second score on a breakaway with just under 20 minutes remaining in regulation.

The Griffins got one goal closer during the 74th minute, but Bush stopped both shots she faced over the final 15 minutes to lift Brandywine to its ninth victory of the season.

The Lions will now set their sights on winning a third-straight PSUAC championship. Top-seeded Brandywine hosts No. 4 Penn State Mont Alto in a tournament semifinal on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM.
