Women’s Soccer Falls 2-0 In USCAA National Championship

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Sixth-seeded Penn State Brandywine's dream season came to an end Monday afternoon as the United States Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer runner-up after No. 1 Cincinnati-Clermont claimed the national title game by a 2-0 score.

Brandywine completed its fourth season as a varsity program as the No. 2 ranked team in the USCAA. The Lions won Pool B with two victories last weekend, their first in three appearances at the national tournament. Brandywine closed the year with a 13-4 overall mark and won the Penn State University Athletic Conference championship with an undefeated record for the third-straight season.

Brandywine goalkeeper Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) made six stops to keep the Lions in the game. Five of those saves came during the opening half when Cincinnati-Clermont applied a majority of the pressure in the Brandywine end of the field.

Clermont received a goal and an assist from Taylor Greene, including the game's first tally on a rebound at the 23:42 mark of the first half. The Cougars piled up nine shots during the opening 45 minutes and took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Brandywine's defense limited UCC to two shots during the second half; however, the Lions could not get on the scoreboard as Cougar keeper Anna Tessoff stopped both shots she faced in the final stanza.

Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City), Angelina Maroulis (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) and Averie Florschutz (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) accounted for Brandywine's three shots on goal.

Segich was joined on the USCAA Championship All-Tournament Team by Emily Jefferson (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) and Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center).
