Brandywine Holds Off Rosemont For 3-0 Win

MEDIA, Pa. -- For the second-straight season, the Penn State Brandywine volleyball team defeated Rosemont in its season opener as the Lions began the year in style with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-16) triumph on Thursday night.

Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) led the way for Brandywine, tallying 11 kills and 10 digs, while Halee Kusner (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) added eight kills and Becca Civera (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) paced the squad with 11 digs.

Hannah Sarafinas (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) collected four kills and four aces and Kelsey Zober (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) recorded four aces and five digs. Sullivan Stark (Middletown, Del./William Penn) dished out 23 assists.

Brandywine trailed 14-13 in the first set before a pair of Sarafinas kills spurred a 6-0 run for the Lions, giving Brandywine the opening frame. The Lions jumped out to an 11-2 lead in set No. 2, but Rosemont rallied, knotting the score at 21-21; however, Brandywine tallied the final four points to grab a 2-0 lead.

Leading 18-14 during the final set, Brandywine pulled away behind four-straight aces from Zober to clinch the win.

Brandywine (1-0) travels to Bryn Mawr for a tri-match against the host Owls and New Jersey City on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 pm.
