York Downs Brandywine In Home Finale 70-61

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine scored the final nine points of the game, but could not overcome a double-figure, second-half deficit as the Lions' men's basketball team dropped their final home game of the season 70-61 to Penn State York Tuesday night.

Brandywine trailed 70-52 with 5:27 to play before holding York, the top team in the PSUAC East Division, scoreless the rest of the way.

After Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) drained a free throw, Ketquan Gatewood (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Collegiate Prep) sank back-to-back layups and Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) followed with two-straight buckets to get the Lions within nine, but Brandywine's comeback ran out of time.

Gatewood grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and added nine points, while Gallagher produced 13 points, six assists and six rebounds. Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) paced Brandywine by netting 19 points and Quentin Beasley (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) chipped in with 11 markers.

Brandywine owned a 21-20 lead with eight minutes to play in the first half, but York embarked on a 22-5 run to open up a 42-26 lead at the break.

The visitors' lead grew as large as 23 points with 14:23 to go in regulation before Barrouk jumpstarted a 15-6 Lions' spurt by canning back-to-back triples. The Lions were within 13 following a Barrouk layup at the 7:33 mark, but York quicky answered with five-straight points and moved the margin to 70-52 with its final basket of the night 35 seconds later.

Both teams shot 42 percent from the field and Brandywine held a 40-37 rebounding advantage, but the Lions managed just 4-of-16 shooting from long range and produced a 9-for-16 mark at the free throw line.

Brandywine closes out the 2019-20 season Friday night at Penn State Mont Alto. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 pm.
