Softball Wins PSUAC Home Run Derby

Following the cancellation of fall athletics, the Penn State University Athletic Conference is holding a series of competitions for all teams on their respective campuses throughout the commonwealth.

It wasn't the championship they've become accustomed to winning, but Penn State Brandywine softball claimed the title of PSUAC Home Run Derby champion the league announced on Friday. Each member of the team was given three minutes to hit as many home runs as possible.

Brandywine captured the title by compiling 158 team points, far ahead of second-place Greater Allegheny's 74 points. The Lions also had the individual champion as sophomore Payton Landis went deep 17 times during her time at the plate. Meghan Ferry hit nine home runs, while Hayley Coale hit six long balls and Farrell Everett five.

Brandywine has claimed five-straight PSUAC softball championships under Head Coach Mark Caserta and was primed to win a sixth-straight in 2020 before the season was halted in March by the pandemic. The team, along with the rest of the PSUAC, hopes to return to action this spring.

Below are Brandywine's home run totals:

Payton Landis - 17

Meghan Ferry - 9

Hayley Coale - 6

Farrell Everett - 5

Rachel Cherubini - 3

Destiny Brophy - 3

Alexia Galli - 3

Lianna DeDios - 2

Rebecca Halford - 2

Sarah Moore - 2
