Brandywine Blanked In World Series Finale

DUBOIS, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine softball team wrapped up its season Monday night at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association World Series following a 10-0 loss to eighth-seeded D'Youville College.

Brandywine completed its season with a 20-7 record, the sixth-straight, 20-win season for the Lions.

It was the final game in a Brandywine uniform for the team's two seniors, Rachel Cherubini (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) and Haley Grossi (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick), who won 77 games and three conference championships. The duo both earned USCAA All-American honorable mention during their final year in blue and white.

Grossi doubled in her final game, finishing her 104-game career with 89 hits, a .306 batting average and 60 RBI. Cherubini's 131 hits and 131 runs scored are both second-most in team history, while her 99 career RBI rank third.

D'Youville scored a run in the first inning and added three runs during the second, fourth and seventh innings.

Farrell Everett (Wynnewood, Pa./Haverford) collected a pair of hits, while Meghan Ferry (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City), Lianna DeDios (Elmwood Park, N.J./Memorial) and Rebecca Sorrentino (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) all tallied singles.
