USCAA Honors Six Brandywine Spring Student-Athletes With Academic Awards

MEDIA, Pa. -- A total of six Penn State Brandywine baseball and softball student-athletes received recognition on the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Spring National Academic Team recently.

The USCAA All-Academic Team is awarded to student-athletes who have accumulated a minimum GPA of 3.50 entering the spring semester and reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution.

Seniors Rachel Cherubini (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) and Haley Grossi (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick) both earned their third USCAA academic awards. The softball team produced four award winners overall as sophomores Rebecca Sorrentino (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) and Nicole Zuppo (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) both claimed recognition for the first time.

Baseball senior Ben Mutz (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) was honored for the second time in his career, while junior Ricky Palmer (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) landed his first academic selection.

Brandywine softball finished the 2021 season with a 20-7 record after winning its sixth-straight Penn State University Athletic Conference championship and appeared at the USCAA Small College World Series for the sixth time.

The Lions' baseball squad (13-8) won the PSUAC East Division during the regular season and tied for fifth during their first-ever appearance at the USCAA World Series.

Overall during the 2020-21 academic year, 17 Brandywine student-athletes earned recognition on the USCAA National Academic Teams.
