Ferry, Sorrentino Receive PSUAC Player Of The Week Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine softball student-athletes swept the Penn State University Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards on Tuesday as Meghan Ferry (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) was named PSUAC Hitter of the Week and Rebecca Sorrentino (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) was selected as the PSUAC Pitcher of the Week. Ferry also added United States Collegiate Athletic Association Hitter of the Week later in the day Tuesday.

Ferry reached base safely 10 times with a hit and eight more times via base on balls last week and scored 18 runs for the Lions during a 9-1 week. She crossed home safely at least once in all 10 games.

On Thursday against Penn State Schuylkill, Ferry recorded the fourth two-home run game in Brandywine history and totaled three long balls overall during a home doubleheader sweep. Six of her 10 runs batted in during the week came Thursday against Schuylkill, including a five-RBI performance in game one.

Overall for the week, Ferry batted .333 (10-30) and collected eight extra-base hits. She also stole six bases in six attempts.

Sorrentino went 4-0 with three complete-game shutouts in the circle for the Lions last week. All three of her shutouts came in a four-day span against Penn State Schuylkill as she limited Schuylkill to just 12 hits in 18.0 innings. Overall, Sorrentino totaled 25.0 innings in the circle, striking out 18 batters.

Sorrentino also helped herself at the plate as she hit safely in Brandywine's final nine games of the week and batted .444 (12-27) in total. She tallied the first home run of her career during a 15-0 triumph over Penn State Schuylkill. Sorrentino amassed 13 RBI, while scoring nine runs.

In seven starts in the circle this spring, Sorrentino owns a 5-1 record with 28 strikeouts in 41.0 innings. Her three shutouts last week gave her four this season and helped lower her PSUAC-leading ERA to just 1.71.

Brandywine concludes a six-game series with Penn State Scranton on Thursday at 2:00 pm.
