Walleekendeh, Brandywine Roll Central Penn In Opener

MEDIA, Pa. – Bill Walleekendeh (Chester, Pa./Chester) matched a career high with five goals as the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team cruised to a season-opening 8-0 home victory over Central Penn on Thursday afternoon. The victory gave first-year head coach Jesse Zafiratos his first win at Brandywine.

Walleekendeh, a two-time USCAA All-American, upped his career goal total to 69 after scoring four times in the first 45 minutes and adding one more in the second half.

He took a lead pass from Mike Usher (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and deposited it just 3:37 into the game and then used a slick pass by Josh Burton (West Chester, Pa./PA Cyber Charter) to score again under two minutes later.

After two more Walleekendeh goals, Brad Martino (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) netted his first collegiate goal off a feed from Brad Jule (Chadds Ford, Pa./Salesianum) to give the Lions a 5-0 edge at the break.

Walleekendeh added a fifth score at the 62:48 mark, while Usher and James Cellucci (Rosemont, Pa./Radnor) tallied free kick goals during the final 45 minutes.

Brandywine outshot Central Penn 40-2 and attempted all four of the game's corner kicks.

Joe Opdenaker (Lenni, Pa./The Christian Academy) needed to make just one stop for the shutout in goal.

Brandywine is back in action on Tuesday at Gwynedd Mercy at 4:00 pm.
