Gwynedd Mercy Rallies To Top Brandywine

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. -- Gwynedd Mercy scored twice during a four-minute span in the second half and topped Penn State Brandywine in non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon.

Matt Bachman scored both goals for the Griffins (2-1) with the first coming on a rebound in the 60th minute following a save by Brandywine goalkeeper Joe Opdenaker (Lenni, Pa./The Christian Academy). He added the go-ahead goal by heading in a throw in nearly four minutes later.

Anthony Neufville (Wallingdale, Pa./Christ Academy) had given Brandywine a 1-0 lead late in the first half when he followed Bill Walleekendeh's (Chester, Pa./Chester) initial shot for his first goal of the year. Walleekendeh recorded an assist for his 11th point of the young season.

Opdenaker, who was named PSUAC Goalkeeper of the Week earlier Tuesday, made four stops in goal, while Griffin net minder Tyler Blair blocked six shots. Gwynedd Mercy held a 19-12 edge in shots and recorded eight of the game's 12 corner kicks.

Brandywine opens Penn State University Athletic Conference play Wednesday, Sept. 14 at home against Penn State Mont Alto (4:00 pm).
