Brandywine Rolls At Beaver In PSUAC Opener

NEW BRIGHTON, Pa. -- Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) netted three goals, Christina Kane (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) added two goals and Samantha Bearden (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) tallied one goal and three assists as the Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team won its first conference match of the season by a 6-1 score at Penn State Beaver on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine won its 14th-straight game against PSUAC competition as the Lions upped their record to 4-0-1 this fall. Eight of Brandywine's 14 victories during that stretch have come by five goals or more.

Banks netted her first goal at the 14:23 mark, while Bearden added a second goal off a feed from Rachel Weir (Neptune City, N.J./Red Bank Regional) just over six minutes later and Brandywine took a 2-0 lead into the half.

The Lions extended their edge to three goals when Banks scored her second goal six minutes into the final stanza.

Beaver got on the board in the 62nd minute, but Brandywine registered the final three goals of the match during a six-minute span to put the hosts away. Bearden assisted on the Lions' final three scores, the first of which came off the foot of Banks at the 74:23 mark. Kane netted her first goal 124 seconds later and finished off the scoring in the 80th minute.

Brandywine outshot Beaver 37-8 and attempted 10 of the match's 12 corner kicks. Goalkeeper Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) stopped four shots for the Lions, while Beaver netminder Brittany Zahn made 20 saves, helping to keep Beaver within reach.

The Lions remain on the road Wednesday when they face Penn State Hazleton at 4:00 pm.
