Hurley, Reynolds Claim Weekly PSUAC Baseball Awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine swept the Penn State University Athletic Conference's weekly baseball honors as senior Brian Reynolds (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) was named hitter of the week and sophomore Joe Hurley (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) earned pitcher of the week accolades on Tuesday.

Reynolds posted a three-hit game during Brandywine's Spring Break finale against Gordon College, upping his team-leading hit total to 14 this spring. Reynolds hit safely in nine of the team's 11 games.

He also scored four runs during the doubleheader, which Brandywine split with Gordon, and stole a base.

Earlier in the week, Reynolds collected the 100th hit of his four-year career, a double against Curry College. Reynolds is one of fewer than 10 Brandywine baseball players with 100 career hits, totaling 103 in 115 games.

Hurley had himself a big game on the mound and at the plate during Brandywine's 11-4 victory over Gordon.

He pitched all seven innings, striking out 12 batters, to earn his first victory of the season. Hurley's 12 strikeouts matched Tyler Michaels, his current pitching coach, for the most strikeouts in a game by a Brandywine pitcher in the last 13 seasons and were one shy of matching a school record.

At the plate, Hurley went 4-for-4 with three singles and a two-run triple, while scoring two runs. He added a second two-RBI triple and a base hit in three at-bats during game two of the doubleheader.
