Brandywine Blanked By Rochester

VERO BEACH, Florida – Three Rochester (Mich.) pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout as the Penn State Brandywine baseball team was defeated 3-0 on Monday night in Vero Beach, Fla.

Alex Ripelle pitched the first 5.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out five to gain the win and Scott Kunert retired the side in order in the seventh to earn his first save.

Carmen Scota (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) took the loss for Brandywine despite tossing a complete game. He surrendered three runs (two earned) on six hits and fanned one.

Brandywine's top scoring threat came during the third inning when it put two runners in scoring position, but both runners were thrown out at the plate on consecutive plays.

Rochester broke the scoreless tie in the fifth when Brandon Dupuis' double plated two and the Warriors tacked on an insurance run during the sixth.

Evan Cline (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven), Gabe Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and John Gorgone (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) recorded Brandywine's trio of hits, all singles.

The Lions (2-2) look to bounce back Tuesday afternoon with games against Bridgewater State (1:00 pm) and Montreat (4:00 pm).
