Four Brandywine Baseball Players Earn First Team All-Conference Awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania -- The PSUAC announced its all-conference baseball awards on Sunday night and four Penn State Brandywine student-athletes were named to the first team.

Senior first baseman Gabe Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and junior third baseman Tom Osenbach (Newtown Square, Pa./West Chester Christian) both earned first team accolades for the third-straight year, while senior pitcher Carmen Scota (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) and sophomore outfielder John Gorgone (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) were both honored for the first time.

Encarnacion batted .366 with one home run, 20 runs batted in and 27 runs scored in 32 games. 10 of his 34 hits went for extra bases.

During 126 games in four seasons, Encarnacion ,the 2014 PSUAC Player of the Year, completed his career with 156 hits, 98 runs and 97 RBI.

Osenbach, also a USCAA First Team All-American, finished second nationally with 17 doubles, while also ranking among the top 20 in the USCAA with a .416 batting average (14th) and .507 on-base percentage (13th).

In 35 starts, he registered 28 runs batted in, while scoring 29 runs and collecting 47 hits. He will enter his senior season needing five RBI to reach 100 for his career.

Scota went 3-2 in six starts and fired three complete games. He struck out 16 in 35.2 innings, while registering a 3.53 earned run average. Two of Scota's three victories came against PSUAC competition, including a two-hit shutout at Penn State Mont Alto on March 29.

Scota completed his four-year career with an 11-6 record and 65 strikeouts during 119.0 innings on the mound.

Gorgone was a USCAA All-American honorable mention selection after tying for the conference lead and sixth nationally with five home runs. He also produced a team-best 29 RBI and stole 12 bases, the second-highest total on the team, while scoring 28 runs.

Gorgone finished the second half of the season as one of Brandwine's hottest hitters, registering hits during 13 of the Lions' final 16 games. He batted .509 during that span, including a two home run, five RBI performance against Penn State Wilkes Barre on April 25.

Blaise McCarty of Penn State Beaver took player of the year honors, while Penn State Mont Alto's Derek Coy was selected as the league's pitcher of the year.
