Brandywine Takes Two From Baptist Bible

FLEMINGTON, N.J. – Playing for the fourth consecutive day, the Penn State Brandywine baseball team continued its busy week with a pair of victories on Wednesday, defeating Baptist Bible by scores of 8-3 and 13-2 at Diamond Nation.

Brandywine needed just four hits to claim the opener.

The Lions took advantage of six bases on balls issued by Baptist Bible pitching during the first inning, scoring three runs.

Brandywine added two runs during the second and third innings before John McGarvey (Wilmington, Del./Concord) capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Dan McMenamin (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) knocked in two runs and scored twice, while Evan Cline (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) crossed home two times and Chris Keenan (Chester, Pa./Strath Haven) collected two RBI.

Troy Mucchetti (Haverford, Pa./Haverford) settled down after allowing two first-inning runs, surrendering just four hits over the next six frames, to earn his first victory. Mucchetti struck out five and walked just one during a complete-game effort.

The Lions grabbed a 3-0 lead after one inning in game two and extended their edge to 7-2 following two-RBI singles from John Bellano (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) and Tommy Crumlish (Upper Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) in the third.

Brandywine put the game away with five additional runs in the sixth. John Gorgone's (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) bases-loaded single plated McMenamin to start the scoring. Bellano followed with his first collegiate home run, a grand slam over the left field fence.

Bellano, Gorgone and Crumlish all recorded two hits during the nightcap.

In two games, Brandywine recorded 18 stolen bases, including six from Josh Dellipriscoli (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro).

Pat O'Neill (Morton, Pa./Ridley) tossed a complete game to pick up his first win. He struck out eight, while allowing two earned runs on four hits in 7.0 innings.

Brandywine opens a three-game series against Apprentice School on Friday in Virginia at 5:00 pm.
