VERO BEACH, Fla. – Penn State Brandywine managed just one run in 17 innings during baseball defeats against Bridgewater State and Montreat College Tuesday afternoon in Vero Beach, Florida. The Lions dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker in eight innings during the nightcap versus Montreat after falling 19-0 to Bridgewater State.

Troy Mucchetti (Haverford, Pa./Haverford) took the hard-luck defeat on the mound for Brandywine against Montreat. Mucchetti limited the Cavaliers to two runs (both unearned) in 7.1 innings of work during his first start. He issued just one walk and struck out a pair.

Montreat's Taylor Cornelius struck out 14 Lions en route to the victory. He tossed 8.0 innings, allowing one run on four hits.

Brandywine grabbed a 1-0 lead during the fourth inning. Tommy Crumlish (Upper Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) singled to lead off the inning and moved to third after Anthony Bianchini's (Long Island, N.Y./Long Beach) base hit. Bianchini stole second and a throwing error by Montreat catcher Nick Bray allowed Crumlish to scamper home from third.

Caleb Bell evened the game for the Cavaliers in the fifth with an RBI single. After loading the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth, Travis Fetter's single through the middle allowed Montreat to walk off with the victory.

Bridgewater State took a 1-0 lead into the fifth inning of the opener, but exploded for 11 runs during the fifth frame, sending 16 batters to the plate, as the Bears took control.

Pat O'Neill (Morton, Pa./Ridley) struck out six in 4.1 innings on the mound, but received the loss after surrendering six runs (four earned). Nick Ciuffo tossed the first 8.1 innings to earn the win for the Bears.

Crumlish provided two of Brandywine's eight hits during the two games.

The Lions (2-4) face Rochester for the second time this week on Wednesday morning at 9:00 am.
