Gabe Encarnacion Receives John S. Egli Award From PSUAC

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine senior baseball student-athlete Gabe Encarnacion earned the John S. Egli Award as the 2014-15 male scholar athlete of the year in the Penn State University Athletic Conference during the league's award luncheon on Tuesday afternoon.

The award, named in honor of John S. Egli, a former Penn State student-athlete, professor and coach who is responsible for bringing varsity athletic programs to the commonwealth campuses, has annually been bestowed upon the top male and female student-athletes in the PSUAC since 1982. To be considered for the award, a student-athlete must have had a distinguished athletic career, own a minimum grade point average of 3.0, be active in additional campus activities and exemplify high morals, leadership and outstanding character.

Encarnacion is just the third male and 10th overall student-athlete from Brandywine to receive the award during its 34-year history. Bobbi Caprice was Brandywine's most recent recipient following the 2011-12 academic year.

Encarnacion, who majored in human development and family studies, graduated from Brandywine this spring with a 3.52 grade-point average.

He was selected to the PSUAC All-Academic Team for the fourth time this spring and also earned USCAA National Academic Team recognition. Encarnacion also received the baseball team's Outstanding Contribution award during Brandywine's end-of-year athletic banquet on Sunday.

A four-year member of the baseball team, Encarnacion was one of the most decorated athletes in Brandywine history as a two-time all-American and 2014 PSUAC Player of the Year. During his 126-game career, the three-time first team all-conference honoree batted .390, while collecting 156 hits, 98 runs and 97 RBI.
