Fayette Rallies To Top Brandywine

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Three Penn State Brandywine errors led to six runs for Penn State Fayette during the bottom of the sixth inning as Fayette rallied to defeat Brandywine 11-8 late Sunday night at the RussMatt Invitational.

Fayette needed just one hit during its rally, while sending 12 batters to the plate.

Brandywine held the lead for the first five innings as Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) led off the game with a base hit, stole second and scored on Cam Baughman's (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) double. One frame later, Owen Lawton (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) started the inning with a base hit and came around to score on Toby Skeans' (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) single after stealing second.

Fayette got a run back in the second, but Brandywine added three more markers in the third. Baughman tripled to start the frame and scored on Sam Benvignati's (Aston, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) groundout. Three batters later, Lawton delivered a two-out single to left field, upping the Lions' lead to 5-1.

After Fayette trimmed the margin to 5-4, Benvignati launched a long, two-run home run over the left field fence to pad the Lions' lead in the fifth. Benvignati added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to account for Brandywine's eighth run.

Benvignati drove in four runs, while Baughman, Lawton and Shawn Webb (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) all had two hits. Webb also scored twice and was one of five players to steal a base.

Brandywine (3-2) will enjoy a day off Monday and return to action Tuesday with a doubleheader against Anna Maria College at 3:45 PM.
