Brandywine Edges Cabrini 6-3

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine baseball team claimed its second non-conference victory in as many days, recording a 6-3 triumph over visiting Cabrini at Maple Zone on Friday night.

The Lions answered Cabrini's first-inning run with one of their own as Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) singled on the first pitch he saw and later crossed home when Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) worked a bases-loaded walk.

After Snyder's run-scoring groundout put the Lions on top in the fourth, the Cavaliers responded with two runs during their next at-bat; however, Brandywine struck three times during the fifth inning to take the lead for good.

Brown legged out an infield single that allowed Mike DeGirolamo (Frederick, Md./Frederick) to score the tying run. The Lions' next batter, Owen Lawton (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown East), swatted a single to left that plated Sam Benvignati (Aston, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) with the go-ahead run and Evan Shade (Green Lane, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) tacked on a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-3.

Brandywine added to its lead in the sixth when Snyder singled and came around to score on DeGirolamo's two-base hit.

Snyder, Benvignati, Lawton and Evan Abegg (Commerce City, Colo./Prairie View) all tallied two hits for the Lions, who produced 10 overall. Snyder stole a base and scored twice, while Brown knocked in two runs and swiped one bag.

Connor Thompson (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) pitched the first six innings, upping his record to 3-0 this spring. Thompson struck out three, while allowing three runs on five hits. Ty Coccia (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) retired nine of the 11 batters he faced over the final three innings and fanned a pair of Cavaliers to earn the save.

Brandywine (5-5) continues non-conference play Tuesday at Marywood beginning at 3:00 PM.
