Brandywine Doubles Up Moravian 8-4

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four players had three-hit efforts as the Penn State Brandywine baseball team recorded an 8-4 victory at Moravian on Thursday afternoon.

Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem), Mike DeGirolamo (Frederick, Md./Frederick), Toby Skeans (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) and Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) all tallied a trio of hits for the Lions, who produced 18 knocks overall. Brown also stole a base, walked twice and scored two runs, while Owen Lawton (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown East) and Evan Shade (Green Lane, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) both drove in two runs.

Brandywine received a run-scoring single from Shawn Webb (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) during the third inning, but trailed the Greyhounds 2-1 through five frames.

Brown worked a walk and came around to score two batters later following Shade's RBI single to equal the count at 2-2 in the sixth.

The Lions sent 10 batters to the plate in the seventh and tallied four run-scoring singles to plate five runs. Sam Benvignati (Aston, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) started the rally by delivering the go-ahead base hit to score Webb. Two batters later, Lawton sent a two-out single to center that plated DeGirolamo and Evan Abegg (Commerce City, Colo./Prairie View). Shade and Skeans followed with run-scoring base hits to give the Lions a five-run cushion. DeGirolamo's RBI single completed the Lions' offensive output in the eighth.

Michael Govan (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) earned the win in relief of Jaylen Bryant (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School of Telecommunications). Govan pitched the final four frames, tallying four strikeouts, while allowing two runs on four hits. Bryant worked the game's first five innings and also fanned four, while yielding two runs (one earned) on five hits.
