Brandywine Ups Winning Streak To Nine Games

NEW KENSINGTON, Pennsylvania – The Penn State Brandywine softball team pummeled Penn State New Kensington, easily sweeping a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon to up its winning streak to nine games. The Lions rolled to a 17-0 victory in the opener before drubbing PSNK 34-0 in an abbreviated, three-inning nightcap.

Katy Steffen (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) powered the offense with 12 runs batted in after clubbing a three-run home run in game one and blasting a grand slam during the Lions' 15-run first inning in game two. Steffen also scored five times and collected four hits.

Alexa Iacono (Wilmington, Del./Concord) led the team with three hits in game one and also scored three times, while Lindsey Dellavecchio (Ridley Park, Pa./Interboro) crossed home four times. Jen Patterson (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Julia Allman (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) both drove in three runs.

Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) earned her fourth win of the season after striking out eight in 5.0 innings. She yielded just one hit.

Cheyenne Murphy (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) tossed three no-hit frames in game to, picking up her first win. She struck out three and issued three walks.

Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) reached base in all five at-bats and scored five times. Allman, Steffen, Robyn Gannon (Lansdowne, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) and Danielle Spina (Thornton, Pa./Garnet Valley) all came around to score four times.

Allman also collected four RBI, while Spina and Foeldes both knocked in three. Brandywine needed just 10 hits to score its team record-setting 34 runs.

Brandywine (10-5, 6-0) faces Penn State Fayette Sunday at 2:00 pm.
