Lions Overpower Fayette For Doubleheader Sweep

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) fired her third one-hit shutout of the season and Lauryn Geduldick (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) launched her first collegiate home run to highlight Penn State Brandywine's PSUAC softball sweep of Penn State Fayette on Sunday. The Lions took game one 16-1 in four innings before claiming a 12-0 victory in six innings during the nightcap.

Brandywine, which has now won 11-straight games, has outscored conference opponents 118-15 in eight games this spring.

Brandywine scored four times during the first inning of game two and added two more in the second before putting the game away with a six-run sixth inning.

DeStefano took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but it was broken up by a two-out, infield single. The one-hitter was her second in as many days as she also one-hit Penn State New Kensington on Saturday. DeStefano struck out three in 6.0 innings in the circle.

Lindsey Dellavecchio (Ridley Park, Pa./Interboro) tripled to lead off the game and scored on Julia Allman's (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) groundout. Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) forced in a run after working a bases-loaded walk, while Danielle Spina (Thornton, Pa./Garnet Valley) drove in Katy Steffen (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) with a base hit in the first.

Robyn Gannon (Lansdowne, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) scored Dellavecchio on a double in the second and Foeldes added a second bases-loaded walk.

After Allman singled and Gannon walked to start the sixth, Geduldick powered a three-run home run to up Brandywine's lead to 9-0. Cheyenne Murphy (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) and Alexa Iacono (Wilmington, Del./Concord) both added run-scoring doubles later in the inning.

Geduldick and Murphy both knocked in three runs, while Steffen recorded three hits and Gannon scored three times.

In game one, Steffen started a six-run first inning with an RBI double that plated Dellavecchio. Later in the frame, DeStefano cleared the bases with a two-base hit and Allman added a run-scoring single.

The Lions tacked on six more runs in the third and three Lions crossed home in the fourth.

Geduldick, Foeldes and DeStefano all scored three times in game one, while Murphy and Dellavecchio each added three runs batted in.

Spina upped her record to 6-1 after striking out five and allowing one earned run on five hits.

Brandywine (12-5, 8-0 PSUAC) travels to Franklin & Marshall on Thursday for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
