Brandywine Continues PSUAC Dominance With Blowout Victories

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine upped its PSUAC softball record to 10-0 after cruising to a pair of blowout victories over Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday afternoon. The Lions (15-6, 10-0) took game one 8-0 in six innings before rolling to a 16-1, three-inning triumph in game two.

Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) twirled her fourth one-hit shutout of the season in game one to up her record to 6-4. She struck out 10 and allowed just two base runners in 6.0 innings of work.

Lindsey Dellavecchio (Ridley Park, Pa./Interboro) doubled to lead off Brandywine's half of the first and scored on Danielle Spina's (Thornton, Pa./Garnet Valley) base hit. Two batters later, Katy Steffen's (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) single drove in Spina, while Lauryn Geduldick (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) followed with her second home run of the spring to up the Lions' lead to 4-0.

Steffen added two more RBI with a triple in the third and then came around to score on Geduldick's sacrifice fly. Brandywine walked off with the eight-run mercy rule victory when Julia Allman (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) scored on a fielding error in the sixth.

Steffen and Spina both recorded two of Brandywine's nine hits and each scored a pair of runs, while Steffen and Geduldick both knocked in three.

Brandywine wasted no time scoring again in game two as Allman and Geduldick provided run-scoring singles in the first to put Brandywine in front 2-0.

The Lions blew the game open with a 14-run outburst in the second, taking advantage of three Greater Allegheny errors.

Dellavecchio and Robyn Gannon (Lansdowne, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) each tallied two hits during the inning. Dellavecchio singled and scored on Allman's base hit and Gannon followed with a double to plate Allman. Later in the inning, Dellavecchio doubled in two more runs, while Gannon's second hit pushed Dellavecchio across home.

DeStefano added a two-run double and scored on Cheyenne Murphy's (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) single. Steffen capped the inning with her fifth home run of the season, a three-run blast.

Dellavecchio went 3-for-3 at the plate, scoring three times and driving in two, while Allman and Gannon both added two hits, two runs and a pair of RBI and Steffen crossed home with a trio of runs.

Spina pitched all three innings, yielding just one run on four hits. The victory was the eighth of the season for Spina, tying her for the conference lead and fourth nationally in wins.

Brandywine, which has won 14 of its last 15 games, continues conference play Sunday when it hosts Penn State Beaver at noon.
