Lions Make Quick Work Of Mont Alto In PSUAC Tournament

BOALSBURG, Pennsylvania – Top-seeded Penn State Brandywine jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning and needed just 60 minutes to defeat No. 4 Penn State Mont Alto 9-0 in five innings during the second round of the PSUAC Softball Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

With the victory, the Lions advance to the tournament's winner bracket and will play No. 3 Penn State Hazleton at 12:00 pm Thursday. Brandywine can move into the championship game with a victory in that contest.

Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) tossed her sixth shutout of the season, second against Mont Alto, to earn her ninth win in the circle. She struck out six, while allowing just three hits, all singles, in 5.0 innings.

Lindsey Dellavecchio (Ridley Park, Pa./Interboro) singled to lead off Brandywine's half of the first and scored on an error. Robyn Gannon (Lansdowne, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) then drove in Julia Allman (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) with a base hit for a 2-0 lead. Lauryn Geduldick (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) doubled in Gannon, while Cheyenne Murphy (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) added a sacrifice fly.

Brandywine put the game away by tacking on five more runs in the fourth. Alexa Iacono's (Wilmington, Del./Concord) single scored Murphy and Dellavecchio followed with a two-base hit that pushed Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, Pa./South Brunswick) across home. Gannon's single added two more runs and Katy Steffen (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) ended the scoring with an RBI double.

Dellavecchio produced two hits and scored twice, while Gannon recorded a pair of hits and drove in three to pace the Lions' offense.
