Balanced Scoring Attack Lifts Brandywine Past Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa. -- Five players scored in double figures for Penn State Brandywine as the Lions earned an 84-68 non-conference road victory at Rosemont on Wednesday night to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) led the way by scoring 13 points each, while Jilly Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) delivered 11 points. Cashae Hinton (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) and Brandi James (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) both added 10 points.

Encarnacion and Jilly Gledhill combined for 24 points during the first half, helping Brandywine establish a 10-point lead after 20 minutes.

The first six points of the game were scored by Encarnacion. Rosemont pulled within one on two occasions during the first quarter, but Encarnacion responded with a three-pointer and Chelsea Dent (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) sank three free throws to give the Lions a 26-19 lead after one stanza.

Brandywine opened the second quarter with eight-straight points as its lead reached 15, but Rosemont quickly cut its deficit down to just five. Jilly Gledhill answered the Raven run with a three-pointer and, after a pair of Rosemont baskets, drilled another triple, making the score 41-34. Two minutes later, her third three-pointer of the quarter pushed the lead back to double figures.

The Lions held the Ravens without a made field goal for nearly six minutes to start the second half and used an 11-0 run capped off by James' layup at the 4:57 mark to pull away. Brandywine's edge would not shrink to less than 21 over the final 10 minutes.

Five players pulled down at least five rebounds for the Lions, who held a slim 49-46 edge on the boards, led by Lauren Munro's (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) seven rebounds. Munro also tied Hinton for the team lead with four assists

Brandywine shot 46 percent from the field, including a 55 percent clip during the opening half, while limiting Rosemont to 31 percent shooting. Carly Hislop produced a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double to pace the Ravens.

Brandywine completes its three-game road trip Saturday at Widener (1:00 pm).
