Brandywine Suffers Home Loss To Beaver

MEDIA, Pa. – Penn State Beaver pulled down 27 offensive rebounds and ran away in the second half to record an 89-71 victory over the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon.

Beaver's offensive rebounding led to 24 second-chance points and it held a 63-46 on the boards overall as it upped its record to 2-6 overall and 2-0 in the PSUAC, while Brandywine fell to 4-3 and suffered its first conference loss.

Brandywine led 9-3 midway through the opening quarter, but Beaver rallied with six-straight points to tie the game. Beaver moved in front by four but Jessy Gledhil (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Lauren Munro (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) answered with baskets to put Brandywine ahead 22-21 after 10 minutes.

Beaver outscored Brandywine 26-15 during the second quarter to grab a double-figure lead at the half. With the game tied at 26, Beaver used a 9-2 spurt to pull in front and established its largest lead at 10 when Khalia Adams beat the halftime buzzer with a three-pointer.

Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) opened the second half with a triple; however that was as close as Brandywine would get for the remainder of the contest as Beaver used a 15-2 surge spanning 3:12 to pull away.

The Lions battled back late in the fourth quarter, using an 11-0 run to make the score 81-68, but it was too late for Brandywine against the defending USCAA Division II national champions.

Encarnacion and Gledhill combined for 40 of Brandywine's 71 points as Encarnacion poured in 23 and Gledhill tallied 17. Cashae Hinton (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) added nine points, seven assists and three steals.

Brittany Jackson came off the bench to score 20 points for Beaver, while Mia Mattes registered 18 points and Miranda Davis grabbed 16 boards.

Brandywine will look to bounce back Sunday afternoon at home against Penn State Schuylkill at 1:00 pm.
