Brandywine Powers Past Central Penn 97-58

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team forced 43 turnovers and scored 41 points off those miscues, earning a 97-58 triumph over Central Penn on Wednesday night, marking the most points scored in a game by the Lions in nearly 10 years.

The Lions' defense was stout all night, collecting Knight turnovers on their first four possessions of the game to run out to a 6-0 lead after three minutes. Brandywine used a 9-0 run, spurred by seven points from Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro), to push the lead to 11 and closed out the first quarter with 10 of the final 12 points to claim a 31-10 after 10 minutes.

Brandywine continued to roll in the second quarter, pushing its lead to 29 points at the 5:48 mark before settling for a 47-27 edge at the break.

The Lions' lead reach 30 points for the first time late in the third stanza as Encarnacion connected on a jumper and Brandywine would not be tested the rest of the way, cruising to the lopsided victory.

Cashae Hinton (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) led all scorers with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting and added seven assists, six steals and five rebounds, while Encarnacion contributed 17 points and four boards. Alyssa Abbonizio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) made 4-of-5 shots for eight points.

As a team, Brandywine collected 25 steals and all 14 players who saw action netted at least one point. The Lions also held a 46-43 edge on the boards. Brandywine connected on 47 percent of its shots from the field and limited Central Penn to 37 percent shooting.

Brandywine (7-5) closes out a seven-game homestand Sunday at noon against Vaughn College (N.Y.).
