Brandywine Drops Road Game At Fayette

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. -- Penn State Fayette starters accounted for 78 of the team's 82 points as it knocked off Penn State Brandywine 82-71 on Saturday afternoon in PSUAC women's basketball action.

Fayette led 17-10 in the first quarter before seven-straight points from Brandywine, capped off by a three-pointer from Chelsea Dent (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood), tied the score.

The Lions took their first lead of the contest at the 3:32 mark of the second quarter following a pair of Dent free throws, but Fayette registered eight of the final 11 points of the half to grab a 39-35 edge.

Six consecutive points from Holly Moreland pushed Fayette's lead to double figures and Brandywine's deficit reached as many as 13 points after Taylor Smith recorded a three-point play late in the stanza.

The Lions scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter as Cashae Hinton (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) drained a jumper, Lauren Munro (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) knocked down a layup and three-pointer and Melanie Kempf (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) brought the Lions within four with a lay in at the 8:00 mark.

However, Fayette netted seven-straight points over the next 1:58 and would hold off Brandywine by sinking 10 free throws over the final three minutes to secure the win.

Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) led four starters in double figures with 17 points, while Hinton and Munro both netted 13 and Kempf added 10 points. Munro also recorded five boards, three assists and a pair of steals.

Moreland paced all scorers with 21 points and Smith tallied 17 points and nine rebounds.

Brandywine (9-6, 3-3 PSUAC) is on the road again on Wednesday when it travels to Penn State Lehigh Valley at 6:00 pm.
