Brandywine Opens Conference Slate With 71-51 Win At Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine used a late 13-0 run to seal its first PSUAC women's basketball victory of the season as the Lions bested Penn State Mont Alto 71-51 on Tuesday night during both teams' league opener.

Brandywine (4-2, 1-0 PSUAC) led by 10 in the second half, but a quick, 7-0 spurt from home team cut the Lions' edge to just three.

However, Lauren Munro (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro), this week's USCAA and PSUAC Player of the Week, sank a layup and followed with a pair of free throws to start Brandywine's game-clinching surge. Beatrice Oladeji (Upper Darby, Pa./Penn Wood) contributed four points, while Alyssa Abbonizio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) drained a key three-pointer during the run.

Munro and Cashae Hinton (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) both registered 15 points, while Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) added nine and Chelsea Dent (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) totaled eight.

Munro also pulled down nine rebounds to go along with six steals and four assists and Hinton tallied six steals.

Brandywine shot 38 percent from the field and held Mont Alto to 30 percent shooting. Shelley Trumpower delivered 14 points to pace Mont Alto.

Brandywine opens a seven-game home stand on Saturday with a key league game against Penn State Beaver. Tip-off is slated for 3:00 pm.
