College Of St. Joseph Claims Victory Over Brandywine

MEDIA, Pa. -- Regina Steele produced 18 points, 19 rebounds and five blocks as the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) topped Penn State Brandywine 80-50 in USCAA women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon.

Steele was one-of-four players to reach double-figure scoring for the Fighting Saints, while Alyssa Abbonizio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) paced Brandywine with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting and seven rebounds in 21 minutes.

CSJ scored the final four points of the first quarter to take a seven-point edge after 10 minutes and pushed its lead to double figures early in the second. Abbonizio buried a triple and Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) followed with a jumper to slice the deficit to just five, but the Saints answered with three-pointers during their next three possessions to push back in front by 14.

Steele sank three-straight layups during the middle of the third quarter and the College of St. Joseph would lead by at least 20 the rest of the way.

Gledhill added seven points and Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) collected 10 points for Brandywine, which shot 26 percent from the field and forced 21 Saint turnovers.

Jazz Laracuente totaled 17 points and 10 assists for the Fighting Saints. CSJ connected on nearly 50 percent of its shots from the floor.

Brandywine (6-5) continues its homestand Wednesday with a non-conference game versus Central Penn at 7:00 pm.
