Lions Bounce Back To Top Schuylkill

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team led wire-to-wire as it bounced back from a loss on Saturday and defeated Penn State Schuylkill 80-70 on its home court Sunday afternoon.

Brandywine (5-3, 2-1 PSUAC) received 16 points from Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro), while  Chelsea Dent (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) and Lauren Munro (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) both tallied 13 points. Munro grabbed eight rebounds and Dent added four steals.

Cashae Hinton (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) registered nine points and eight assists and Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) contributed nine points and four helpers.

Brandywine came out of the gates on fire from the field, hitting 13-of-21 shots during the first quarter and led 33-15 after 10 minutes. The Lions used an 11-2 spurt capped off by a Munro layup to build a double-figure edge and closed out the stanza with 13 of the final 15 points, including six from Dent.

Schuylkill closed to within seven late in the second quarter, but a pair of Dent baskets pushed the Lions' lead back to 11. Their advantage swelled to 15 after Dent canned a triple, sending Brandywine into intermission with a 45-30 edge.

Colleen Druby drew Schuylkill within 10 late in the third and Alexis Goldwire's jumper cut the deficit to nine minutes later; however, Munro sank a pair of free throws and a layup and Jilly Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) buried a three as Brandywine pushed its lead back to 16 at the midway point of the final quarter and Brandywine held on for the victory.

Brandywine made nearly 42 percent of its shots from the field and forced 24 turnovers, while committing just 10. Schuylkill received 18 points and 13 rebounds from Tessa Dolce.

The Lions continue their homestand Tuesday against Penn State Lehigh Valley at 6:00 pm.
