Brandywine Fights Off DuBois For OT Victory

DUBOIS, Pa. -- Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) scored seven of her nine points and Cashae Hinton (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) added six points in overtime as Penn State Brandywine withstood a late rally from Penn State DuBois that forced the extra session and fended off DuBois for an 88-82 triumph on Friday night.

On the road for the first time since Dec. 1, Brandywine ran out to an 11-point lead after one quarter, but settled for a three-point edge at the half.

DuBois opened the second half with nine-straight points, but Brandywine responded with a 19-2 run, sparked by seven points from Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro), over the next five minutes.

Brandywine saw its 11-point advantage trimmed to one by the 4:49 mark of the fourth quarter and Melody Young's jumper with 1:20 to play, the final points of regulation, knotted the score at 71-71.

Hinton drained a jumper to start overtime, but Kristy Haines answered with a triple for DuBois. Gledhill's basket helped Brandywine retake the lead, which would be pushed to five following scores by Hinton and Chelsea Dent (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood); however, another three ball, this one from Williams, drew DuBois back within two with 46 seconds to play.

Gledhill had the answer again, sinking a jumper to push the lead to four and Hinton drained a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left to ice the victory.

Encarnacion poured in a season-best 26 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Hinton tallied 16 points and nine boards. Both collected four steals. Dent was the third Lion to reach double figures with 13 points and Brandi James (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) added seven points and seven rebounds.

Brandywine (9-5, 3-2) can extend its winning streak to four on Saturday when it visits Penn State Fayette for a 1:00 pm tip-off.
