Lions Dominant During Dig Pink Victories

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine eased to three-set triumphs over Penn State Lehigh Valley and Penn State Hazleton during the opening day of Dig Pink Weekend on Saturday afternoon. The Lions helped in aiding the Side-Out Foundation for breast cancer awareness by raising money for the charity throughout the day.

Set scores for the Lions' first victory of the afternoon against Lehigh Valley were 25-15, 25-15, 25-3, while Brandywine's win over Hazleton came by scores of 25-6, 25-9 and 25-6.

Freshman Nicole Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) led the team with seven kills, while junior Kelsi Wiest (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) registered six and both junior Nicole Costa (Lansdowne, Pa./Upper Darby) and freshman Melanie Kempf (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) tallied five.

Poissant also collected nine assists, eight digs and four aces. Junior Miranda Biondi (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) dished out a team-best 18 assists and Costa amassed five service aces.

Defensively, Wiest and junior Kimberly Russo (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) paced the Lions with 11 digs, while Kempf recorded six blocks (four solo) and Costa added three (two solo).

Against Hazleton, Poissant collected seven kills and 13 assists and Biondi handed out 18 helpers, while serving up seven aces and adding five digs. Juniors Kirsten Jerla (Springfield, Pa./Notre Dame) and Molly Nichols (Lenni, Pa./Penncrest) both tallied six kills, while Wiest registered five aces and freshman Isamar Solis (Chester, Pa./Chester) recorded three aces.

Brandywine closes out Dig Pink Weekend on Sunday with matches against Wilkes Barre (12:00 pm) and Worthington-Scranton (2:00 pm).
