SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine posted two 3-0 victories over Penn State Schuylkill in Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference volleyball action on Tuesday night. The Lions opened the evening by claiming sets by scores of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-11 and dominated the nightcap with set scores of 25-5, 25-10 and 25-10.
Brandywine (15-7, 11-2) received a balanced offensive effort as junior Nicole Costa (Landsdowne, Pa./Upper Darby) and freshman Melanie Kempf (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) and Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) all tallied 10 kills, while juniors Kirsten Jerla (Springfield, Pa./Notre Dame) and Kelsi Wiest (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) both collected nine.
Junior Miranda Biondi (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) recorded 32 assists and Poissant added 20. Biondi also registered nine service aces, while classmate Kimberly Russo (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) added six and Jerla amassed three.
Defensively, Russo paced the team with 20 digs and Costa tallied three blocks during each match (five solo) for a team-high six, while Kempf and junior Molly Nichols (Lenni, Pa./Penncrest) accounted for four blocks each.
Winners of six consecutive matches, the Lions look to continue their winning ways on Thursday with a home, nonconference match against Central Penn. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
