Biondi Awarded Academic All-District Honor By Capital One/CoSIDA

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine junior Miranda Biondi (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District I Volleyball First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Biondi was the only student-athlete representing a USCAA institution and one of just nine underclassmen overall to earn first team all-district honors. A total of 42 student-athletes from non-NCAA, small colleges around the United States earned the distinction, with all of the first team honorees now automatically moving on to the national academic all-American ballot.

Biondi is the second Brandywine student-athlete to earn academic all-district accolades this fall, joining men's soccer junior Manny Weldemicael. They are the only two selections from Brandywine in the award's history.

A human development and family studies major, Biondi owns a 3.44 grade-point average and is a two-time PSUAC All-Academic Team honoree.

Biondi earned first team all-conference laurels for the third consecutive year in 2014 after leading the USCAA with 103 aces. She also tallied 513 assists, the fourth-highest total in the PSUAC, as Brandywine's starting setter, while adding 110 digs, 28 kills and 16 blocks.

After compiling 1,577 assists during her first three seasons at Brandywine, Biondi will likely become the first Lion in program history to record 2,000 career assists during her senior season.

To be eligible to earn the academic all-district award, student-athletes must own a minimum cumulative GPA pf 3.30, have reached sophomore academic and athletic status and be a main contributor to their team.

Capital One and CoSIDA will announce first, second and third team volleyball academic all-Americans on Monday, December 8.
