Brandywine Knocks Off Hazleton In Final Regular Season Match

HAZLETON, Pennsylvania – Penn State Brandywine closed out the regular season by winning its season-high, 10th-straight match, sweeping Penn State Hazleton 3-0 (25-6, 25-11, 25-5) in PSUAC volleyball action on Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, the Lions (19-7, 14-2) secured the No. 2 seed in this week's PSUAC Tournament and will host No. 7 Penn State York in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm. Brandywine, which advanced to the PSUAC championship match last season, earned the No. 2 seed for the second consecutive year.

Junior Miranda Biondi (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) posted 12 assists and nine aces, while freshman Nicole Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) added a team-best seven kills along with seven assists and six aces.

Junior Kelsi Wiest (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) totaled five aces, three kills and three digs and classmate Nicole Costa (Landsdowne, Pa./Upper Darby) tallied five kills and three blocks. Defensively, junior Kimberly Russo (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) posted a team-high four digs.

Hazleton received three digs, two assists and two kills from Miranda Dunne.
