Benvignati Selected To PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team
MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine sophomore first baseman Sam Benvignati (Aston, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) was one of 10 Philadelphia-area baseball student-athletes named to the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area team on Thursday.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be at least a sophomore at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better. The team is selected via voting from 30 four-year institutions within the Greater Philadelphia area.
Benvignati completed his sophomore year with a 3.77 GPA as a communications major. He also earned USCAA National Academic Team and PSUAC All-Academic Team laurels.
On the field, Benvignati was tabbed as a second team all-American by the USCAA and was a First Team All-PSUAC performer. He batted a team-high .426 and collected three home runs, 40 RBI and 25 runs scored. Benvignati owned a .522 on-base percentage after tying for the team lead with 21 walks.
Highlighting the year for Benvignati was a 4-for-4 performance on March 2 in Florida when he hit for the first cycle in program history and drove in a team record eight runs during Brandywine's victory over Alfred.
Brandywine will begin its first season as member of NCAA Division III in 2025 after finishing with a 23-15 record this spring.
