Brandywine Drops Two Against Keystone

ASTON, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine baseball team dropped a pair of games to Keystone College on Friday night by scores of 16-0 and 14-7 at Maple Zone.

Game One: Keystone 16, Penn State Brandywine 0

Keystone scored in every inning except the fifth to claim the day's opening game.

Singles from Daniel Horowitz (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee), Evan Shade (Green Lane, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and Toby Skeans (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) accounted for the Lions' three hits.

The Giants took advantage of seven first-inning walks to plate seven runs and produced 14 hits overall, while four pitchers combined on the shutout.

Game Two: Keystone 14, Penn State Brandywine 7

Brandywine overcame an early four-run deficit to take the lead, but the Giants pulled away late to double up the Lions 14-7.

After spotting Keystone a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, Brandywine scored a run in the bottom of the frame before tying the count with three more markers in the third. Mike DeGirolamo (Frederick, Md./Frederick) lifted a bases-loaded double that plated two runs, while Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) followed with a run-scoring single to make the score 4-4.

The Giants got two runs in the fifth, but the Lions answered with another three-run inning. Owen Lawton (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown East) launched a long, two-run home run over the left field fence and four batters later, David Kursman's (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) RBI single plated Nate Turner (Dover, Del./Dover) with the go-ahead run.

Brandywine held a one-run lead until the seventh inning when Keystone struck for three runs. The Giants pulled away by tacking on five unearned runs in the ninth inning.

Lawton finished a triple shy of the cycle, while Horowitz, Brown and Kursman all collected two knocks. Brown also stole a base and Horowitz, Lawton and Turner each scored two runs.

Brandywine is back at home Tuesday to face Penn State Abington at 4:00 PM.
