Brandywine Splits Non-Conference Twin Bill

YORK, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine played to a baseball doubleheader split against former conference mate Penn State York on Sunday afternoon. The Lions captured the opener by a 6-4 score before York claimed game two by a 2-0 count.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 6, Penn State York 4

Brandywine built a 6-1 lead and had to hold on for the two-run victory.

Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) walked and scored on Mike DeGirolamo's (Frederick, Md./Frederick) sacrifice bunt in the first, while Snyder singled in Tommy Zotollo (Washington Township, N.J./St. Joseph's Regional) during the second inning to stake the Lions to a 2-0 edge.

Zotollo broke the game open during the top of the third inning as his triple into center field cleared the bases, handing Brandywine a five-run advantage.

DeGirolamo's run-scoring groundout plated Snyder to complete the Lions' scoring in the fourth.

The hosts trimmed the margin to 6-2 through five innings and scored twice with two outs in the seventh thanks to a Brandywine error, but the Lions held on as Ty Coccia (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) got Sam Richie to ground out to Snyder to end the game.

Snyder walked twice, singled and stole a base in four plate appearances, while Zotollo had two of Brandywine's five hits.

Coccia went the distance on the mound to even his record at 1-1. He struck out three, while allowing four runs (one earned) on eight hits in 7.0 innings.

Game Two: Penn State York 2, Penn State Brandywine 0

Brandywine's offense was muted by York pitcher Kolby Miller in game two as the Lions mustered just two hits in the shutout.

Ian Merrin (Upper Chichester, Pa./Chichester) singled in the fourth, while DeGirolamo recorded a fifth-inning base hit.

York scored twice via back-to-back run-scoring singles in the third inning for the game's lone runs.

Jack Johnston (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) took the loss despite limiting York to two runs on five hits in 4.0 innings, while Noah Walker (Bremen, Ga./Bremen) spun two scoreless innings in relief, striking out one.

Brandywine returns to Maple Zone Friday for a United East Conference doubleheader against Lancaster Bible beginning at 4:00 PM.
