Brandywine Wins At Christendom; Finishes Regular Season Unbeaten

PORT ROYAL, Va. – The Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team completed its 19-game regular season by defeating Christendom College 6-1, claiming its 15th-straight victory and finishing the regular season unbeaten, on Tuesday afternoon.

Brandywine, now 17-0-2 on the year, recorded an undefeated regular season for the first time since the 1989 team went undefeated en route to winning the Commonwealth Campus Athletic Conference championship and completing the year with a 16-0-1 mark. This year's Lions will begin their postseason run at home in a Penn State University Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal match.

Brandywine, which owns the nation's longest unbeaten streak at 33 consecutive games dating back to last season, received goals from Ethan Simpson (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) and Robbie Warren (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) during the match's opening seven minutes to build a two-goal lead.

The Lions six-game shutout streak ended as the Crusaders scored in the 21st minute, but Brandywine immediately answered with a marker from Chris Manful (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) two minutes later to push the margin back to two.

Francis Sarpong (Germantown, Md./Northwest) and Harry Angelis (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) added tallies late in the first half as Brandywine's lead swelled to 5-1. Manful's 32nd goal of the season capped the scoring during the 65th minute.

Patrick Corley (Southampton, Pa./William Tennett) allowed his first goal in six appearances this season, but stopped three shots and earned his sixth win.

Brandywine faces the winner of Wednesday's PSUAC Tournament quarterfinal matchup between Penn State Greater Allegheny and Penn State Beaver on Saturday at 2:30 PM.
