Four Men’s Soccer Players Named All-American; Manful, Kelly Selected To First Team

MEDIA, Pa. -- A total of four Penn State Brandywine men's soccer players received all-American awards from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, led by first team selections Chris Manful (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) and Raymond Kelly (Middletown, Del./Middletown). Kyle Reuter (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) collected Second Team All-American honors, while Lex Smith (Centreville, Va./ASU Preparatory Academy) claimed honorable mention accolades.

Manful, who was named Penn State University Athletic Conference Player of the Year in October, led the nation in both goals and total points. His 38 goals were 19 greater and his 85 points were 45 greater than his next closest competitor. His nine assists tied for sixth-most in the USCAA.

Manful netted goals in 16-of-22 matches, including each of the last eight to end the season. He produced at least two goals in eight games with a season-best seven markers coming in a victory at Penn State Scranton on Oct. 3.

Manful's goal and point totals are both the second-highest, single-season totals in Penn State Brandywine history.

Now a two-time all-American, Kelly started 22 matches, playing nearly every minute of those games. As a center back, he led the Lions' defense to the highest shutout total in the USCAA with 15 clean sheets. Brandywine did not yield a goal to a PSUAC opponent during any of its 11 matches with conference foes this season.

Kelly pitched in offensively with 19 points, tallying nine goals and one assist. Eight of his nine goals came against USCAA opponents, including a three-goal match during at 9-0 Brandywine triumph at Penn State Beaver.

Reuter, also a starting center back, made 20 appearances with 19 starts. He finished three off the team lead in assists with eight, ranking him ninth overall in the USCAA in that category. Of his eight helpers, five came against USCAA opposition.

Reuter also aided a Brandywine defense that finished second in the USCAA in goals against average (0.60) and surrendered only 14 goals in 23 matches this fall. Brandywine's backline allowed opponents to attempt just 64 shots on goal, an average of less than three per contest.

Smith was the Lions' second-leading scorer, posting 40 points on 16 goals and eight assists. He ranked second in the USCAA in total points, while standing third in goals and tied for ninth in assists.

One of two players to start all 23 matches, Smith collected at least one point in 15 of those games. His season-high scoring total came in an October 18th victory over Penn State Wilkes-Barre when Smith tallied four goals and one assist.

Brandywine finished the season with a record of 19-1-3 and won its sixth-straight conference championship.
