USCAA Places Velez On All-Senior Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Penn State Brandywine senior shortstop Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) was named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-Senior Softball Team last week.

The USCAA presented the 2020 All-Senior Team in lieu of a spring all-American team. The award was based on cumulative career statistics and achievements and was selected by the USCAA office. Velez was one of 15 seniors selected to the team.

Velez, a two-sport athlete at Brandywine, finished her softball career with 107 hits, ranking sixth all-time. A first team all-conference shortstop and four-year starter, Velez played in 108 games, recording 82 runs scored, 55 runs batted in and 14 stolen bases, while batting .363. Velez was also known for her glove in the field, owning a .958 career fielding percentage.

A five-time PSUAC champion, Velez won a conference title during each of her three full seasons on the softball team, plus two more as a member of the Brandywine women's basketball team.

Velez, the women's basketball program's all-time leading scorer with 1,800 points, capped her career by being named national player of the year by the USCAA. She was a four-time First Team All-PSUAC guard and annually one of the top shooters in the conference with 325 three-pointers during her career.
