Brandywine's World Series Run Comes To A Close

DUBOIS, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine closed out the 2021 baseball season Tuesday night during the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Small College World Series at Showers Field in DuBois. The eighth-seeded Lions' year came to an end following a 16-5 setback against No. 5 Mississippi University for Women.

Brandywine finished the season with a record of 13-8, while making its first-ever USCAA World Series appearance. The Lions finished in a tie for fifth at the national tournament after defeating Wright State-Lake in an elimination game late Monday night.

Brian Reynolds (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) produced two hits during his 130th and final game at Brandywine. The 2021 all-American honorable mention selection completed his five-year career with 122 hits, 70 RBI and a .299 batting average. Classmate Ben Mutz (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) worked a walk in three plate appearances and struck out one during 1.1 innings on the mound during his final game in blue and white. Mutz, who played the final three seasons of his collegiate career at Brandywine, recorded 61 hits, 31 RBI and a .298 average in 64 games at the plate, while pitching to a 2-2 record with eight saves in 24 appearances on the mound.

Tyler Brooks (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) added two hits for Brandywine and will finish his freshman season as the USCAA national leader in batting average after hitting .552 (32-58). He earned USCAA First Team All-American and PSUAC Newcomer of the Year accolades.

All five of the Lions' runs came during the seventh inning against MUW. Jack Hedger (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) and Anthony Georgette (Cochranville, Pa./Octorara) both tallied run-scoring singles, while Conor Dowdell (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) scored two with a one-out double. Toby Skeans (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) drove in Brandywine's final run and recorded three strikeouts during 2.0 innings on the mound.

Joel Estabrook and Hunter Harper both homered and combined to drive in 10 runs to lead the Owls at the plate.
