MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team opened the 2023 campaign by defeating Washington Adventist University by a 2-1 count on Friday afternoon.
With the victory, Brandywine ran its regular-season unbeaten streak to 29-straight (26-0-3) matches dating back to 2021.
Chris Manful (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) potted Brandywine's first goal of the season with a highlight reel bicycle kick into the top right corner of the net. Raymond Kelly (Middletown, Del./Middletown) sent a free kick to Kyle Reuter (York, Pa./Dallastown Area), who found Manful in the middle of the field for his 39th goal in 23 matches in a Brandywine uniform.
Reuter also assisted on Brandywine's second goal of the day, this one off the foot of Tyrese Sanchez (Bethel, Pa./Tulpehocken), as Brandywine took a two-goal lead.
The Shock netted a late goal to cut Brandywine's lead in the second half, but the Lions held on for the victory.
Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) made seven stops in net to earn the victory.
Brandywine (1-0) will be back on the road Wednesday at Dickinson at 5:00 PM.
