MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine earned a 2-0 victory over Bryant & Stratton-Rochester, the No. 1 ranked team in USCAA Division I men's soccer, on Sunday afternoon.
Brandywine scored a goal in each half and needed six stops from goalkeeper Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) to earn the victory. DeBooth, who recorded four stops over the final 45 minutes, notched his third shutout of the fall.
Justin Ortega (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) got the Lions on the board during the eighth minute. He took a feed from Omar Simpson (Bear, Del./Christiana) and his drive was deflected past Bobcats' goalkeeper Ryan Hopping for a 1-0 Lions' lead.
Brandywine held its one-goal advantage until adding an insurance tally late in the second half. Jayden Barragan (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) flicked a pass to Ali Abdelhady (Dubai, UAE/Nord Anglia International School), who found himself behind the Bryant & Stratton defense and deposited his fifth goal in the last three matches.
Brandywine's defense recorded its fifth shutout of the season and limited Bryant & Stratton to six shots on target. The Lions put five shots on net.
Brandywine (6-3-2, 2-0-1 PSUAC) now undefeated in 32-straight home matches, hosts Gallaudet Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
